The EU’s Radio Equipment Directive (RED) will be updated in 2025 to include new cybersecurity specifications under sections 3.3 d/e/f. Starting from August 1, 2025, all radio products sold in the EU must meet these updated requirements.
The Radio Equipment Directive (RED) governs the design, manufacturing, and marketing of radio equipment within the European Union. In effect since 2016, the directive is now being revised through a new delegated regulation (3.3 d/e/f). This revision aims to enhance the security of wireless devices by establishing standardized security requirements.
Radio equipment refers to wireless electrical and electronic devices that transmit or receive radio waves or contain a built-in radio component for wireless connectivity (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NB-IoT). These security requirements apply to all wireless devices that connect to the Internet, either directly or via another device.
