T-DRILL plans, manufactures, and markets machines for branching, handling, cutting, and designing pipes. Major investments in product development, service, and efficient production together with several decades of experience have made T-drill the vanguard of its speciality. T-drill wants to maintain the pole position in their field, and with help from Huld, find out how to utilize IoT in their business.

With the help of Huld experts, we got a clear view of what we could achieve by utilizing IoT in our business,” says Juha Murtomäki, the product development manager of T-drill.

The most important thing is to recognize who benefits from this data

Traditionally the machines of T-drill have operated under the control of users and no data has been transferred from the machines to cloud services. With the help of the possibilities brought by IoT, T-drill can get a better understanding of how their customers operate.

When utilizing IoT and data, the most important thing is to recognize which stakeholders benefit the most from the available data. What data exists and what data should possibly be collected? In the project, an understanding of the starting point was created, the possibilities of utilizing the data were explored, and the stakeholders who would achieve the greatest benefit from the data were identified.

The possibilities of IoT were discovered by using service design.

The IoT strategy of T-drill was clarified by using the methods of service design. With the tools of service design, the stakeholders and how to make their operations easier could be determined. The close co-operation between Huld and the T-drill project team helped in determining the needs of the stakeholders.

“Huld’s wide expertise on IoT, mechanics, and data utilization helped us reach the desired end result with our IoT strategy. They asked the right questions to concretize the possibilities of IoT,” comments Murtomäki
