SimAnalytics has developed Factory Harmonizer for industrial process optimization. It combines real-time process data and automated machine learning. The solution improves the efficiency, stability, and sustainability of industrial production processes through data analytics.

Factory Harmonizer’s Cycle module visualizes real-time data and provides insights into the status of production processes. Cycle helps SimAnalytics customers monitor and optimize batch production processes in their factories.

SimAnalytics decided to improve the usability of Cycle and expand its analytics capabilities in a customer-oriented way. SimAnalytics chose Huld as their partner, bringing with them a wealth of industrial experience and deep expertise in service design of digital services and UX/UI design

Usability with Service Design and UX/UI Design

Agile cooperation began with a factory visit to Äetsä, focusing on batch production processes and factory operations. Huld interviewed plant operators and process engineers to develop the Cycle module to meet the real needs of users. The work continued in sprints, where Cycle’s user interface was designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, together with the users. This phase was completed as planned in three weeks.

Next, SimAnalytics and Huld moved on to developing new analytics solutions for the Cycle module. The needs were again mapped with Cycle users, delving deeper into the requirements and pain points of the work. The design progressed in sprints, where service designers, factory workers, and software developers worked closely together. Several feedback rounds were held during the six-week period, and the functionality and usability of the solutions were tested at an early stage of development.

With thorough service design and high-quality UX/UI design, an intuitive user interface and new analytics tools that meet a genuine need were designed for the Cycle module.

“Our cooperation was streamlined by daily discussions and communication tools familiar to everyone. In addition to expertise and experience in service design and UX/UI design, Huldians had a genuine attitude and a desire to help.”Samuli Kortelainen, COO and Co-Founder, SimAnalytics.

Agile Design

With an agile combination of service design and UX/UI design, SimAnalytics and Huld ensured that Factory Harmonizer’s Cycle module met the needs and goals of its end users even before a single line of the actual UI had been coded. Hundreds of different variables were taken into account in the collaboration, and new revisions were reviewed and innovated even within one-day cycles.

SimAnalytics continues to test the UI to ensure that it serves user needs seamlessly. The advanced analytics of the Cycle module will save costs significantly in industrial batch production through data analytics, machine learning, and optimization with a user-centric approach.

“Thanks to efficient design and agile work, the new UIs were quickly taken into production and tested. Frequent revision rounds and fast piloting helped us maximize the module’s potential.”Anniina Heikkilä, Consultant, Huld.
