Valmet is a global leader in developing and supplying technological solutions, automation and services for the pulp, paper, and energy industries. Huld has been helping Valmet’s Air Systems technology unit to develop their engineering practices hand in hand with Valmet’s R&D and delivery project engineering.

Using Less – Getting More

Designing industrial solutions for delivery projects can be a time-consuming and repetitive process, especially for complex products which need to be customized according to customers’ needs. For this, Huld helped Valmet’s Air Systems technology unit by designing parametric product models to automate some of the design tasks. This allowed Valmet to reduce the time spent on design work for each customer case.

Valmet is driven by the vision of becoming the global champion in serving customers. Thanks to Valmet’s modularized solutions and finetuned engineering practices, it is possible to tailor solutions precisely to meet the customers’ vast and varying requirements. The time freed by parametric product models can now be utilized in R&D work, leading to savings in time and resources. On top of that, it also improves the quality and efficiency of Valmet’s product delivery process.

A Joint Journey with Valmet

Engineering development is not an easy task. It is always a process of change that includes risks and jumping into the unknown. To succeed as a partner, a combination of different aspects is needed. To summarize, Valmet’s Air Systems technology unit needed a partner who was already familiar with their systems and eager to improve products and ways of working.

Creating product models for a new product, and at the same time tackling product development challenges, has been an exciting process. Creating a versatile product model that has many different configurations has been an interesting engineering challenge. The first pilot projects are currently being constructed on customer sites, and the feedback from the process is used to make the product models even more efficient.” – Jaakko Kaartinen, Mechanical Designer, Huld.

Benefits will Cumulate

When working with parametric product models, Valmet’s personnel can focus more on the profitable tasks and strategic aspects of product development. At the same time, the possibility of human errors is minimized, and the quality of deliveries will improve. These effects are also visible to Valmet’s end-users, as Valmet can customize their offers more freely to meet the specific needs of each customer. The models allow Valmet to easily adjust the product parameters to meet the specific requirements, without having to start from scratch each time.

“We have been very satisfied with our cooperation with Huld. Planning the tasks has been flexible and the actual work has been done in harmony with our delivery projects’ schedules. Developing the existing conventions requires good communication along with high levels of expertise. In this project, both criteria were achieved.” – Elina Villikari, Senior Manager, Runnability Systems, Valmet.

The engineering development project has helped Valmet’s Air Systems technology unit to improve their product delivery process, reduce costs, increase customer satisfaction, and make their project scheduling more flexible. Overall, Huld’s parametric product models have had a positive impact on Valmet’s business and from now on, the impacts continue to accumulate.
